Kheir Clinic Named Bank of America’s 2023 Neighborhood Builders®

Kheir Clinic Honored with 2023 Neighborhood Builders Award
for Championing Economic Mobility in Underserved Immigrant Neighborhoods

Kheir Clinic has been selected for the 2023 Neighborhood Builders Award, recognizing “its strategic contributions in advancing economic mobility within underserved immigrant neighborhoods of Los Angeles,” shared Bank of America. By delivering quality healthcare services focusing on marginalized populations, Kheir Clinic has played a pivotal role in improving the health and well-being of the community, which fortifies their economic progress.

Launching their medical services in 1999 with a single exam room facility that operated until 2004, Kheir Clinic’s journey has been marked by its dedication to providing culturally and linguistically-appropriate healthcare. Kheir’s work is acknowledged and reinforced with prior accolades, including the 2020 Los Angeles Business Journal’s Community Clinic of the Year Award, the 2022 California State Assembly Nonprofit of the Year – District 54, and the 2023 Korea Presidential Award.

The Neighborhood Builders Leadership Program by Bank of America, is a selective, invitation-only initiative. Over the past two decades, only 54 nonprofits in Southern California have achieved the honor of being chosen as Neighborhood Builders. This award underscores Kheir Clinic’s unique position as the sole Federally Qualified Health Center in the nation offering a comprehensive suite of healthcare services in languages such as English, Bengali, Korean, Spanish, and Thai. With a primary focus on Koreatown, Kheir Clinic extends its healthcare assistance across 121 zip codes in Los Angeles County.

“Bank of America’s Neighborhood Builders program is renowned for its indelible, transformative impact. A strong community must have a gathering place with opportunities for interactions with other cultures, neighbors and activities that build trust, purpose, relationships, new skills, interests and sense of belonging and well-being. With the support of Bank of America, Kheir Clinic will aspire to transform the lives and neighborhoods of our marginalized patient populations,” thanked Erin Pak, CEO, Kheir Clinic.

The prize grant from the award will be invested in establishing “The Good Place,” a shared community space designed for community members and patients. This initiative emphasizes fostering social interaction and engagement, offering resources like computers and video-conferencing facilities, and hosting free specialized classes ranging from language instruction to Zumba.

“We are humbled by this recognition of our critical work. We renew our commitment to working harder and more effectively to address the needs of the community,” added Erin Pak.
